Who we are

The controller for Long-Form is Big Boy Media Ltd, company number 4768408. Long-Form is published by Rapid Commerce. This notice covers Long-Form only. The Big Boy Media privacy policy covers https://www.bigboymedia.com and may differ from this one.

Write to members@long-form.net or to Big Boy Media Ltd at 12 Manor Fields, Wynyard, Billingham, Cleveland TS22 5GE, UK.

What we store

  • The name, email, and username on your account. The username appears in public article addresses. The name and email stay on the account.
  • A hash of your password. We do not store the password itself.
  • The articles, series, and guide progress on your account, including the trial start and end dates.
  • The time you accepted the terms, and whether you ticked the optional email box.
  • A session cookie named emberline_session. It is httpOnly, lasts about 60 days, and is there so you stay signed in.

Studio is paid through PayPal, on the sales@bigboymedia.com account. The card is entered on PayPal, not on this site, and we do not store the card number. When PayPal confirms a subscription we store the subscription id, the PayPal payer email, and that Studio is on. Reader gifts are a preview and are not saved as payments.

Why we use it

We store the account and your articles so we can provide the trial you asked for. That is the contract. The session cookie is strictly necessary for that login. We do not use it to advertise, and we do not sell personal information.

Product notes by email are separate. The signup form has an optional box, unticked unless you tick it. Long-Form does not send those notes today. If you tick the box, we store that you agree to hear from us later. If you leave it unticked, we use your email only to run the account. To change your mind, open your profile and tick or clear the notes box, or email members@long-form.net.

How long, and who else sees it

We keep the account while you use Long-Form and for a short time after you ask us to delete it, long enough to remove it from the server. We do not pass your articles to advertisers. A host that stores the server for us may process the data only so the service can run.

Public articles are visible to anyone with the address. Do not put private facts in a published piece if you do not want them read.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold, ask us to correct it, erase it, or restrict it, and you can object to optional email. There is no fee for that request. Email members@long-form.net with the address on the account. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
